Absent/Sick Days:
Please notify the school office if your child is going to be absent.
When students are absent, I will send home all work they have missed on the day they arrive back to school. There will be a cover sheet explaining all of the work he/she missed as well as a due date for the assignments. If your student is going to be out for an extended amount of time, I will be happy to send work home with a sibling or neighbor.
Assignment Notebook:
We will be writing in our assignment notebook daily. This is where all of the daily homework will be written, as well as any tests for the week. If you have any questions for me you may write them in your child’s assignment notebook, as I will be looking in them daily. I also ask that you try your best to sign your child’s assignment notebook daily. There is a yellow box below each day that you can use for this. By signing your student’s assignment notebook it helps to keep a strong line of communication between you and I.
Birthday Celebrations:
We ask that students bring in a favorite book to share with the class on their birthday. Students will no longer be permitted to bring food items or toys into the classroom on their birthday. This is a school-wide rule.
Communication:
To ensure a successful year for your child, an open line of communication between the adults at home and myself is necessary. If at any time you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. ([email protected])
Friday Folder
Your child's "friday folder" will go home every Friday. This folder will contain all of their papers from the week. Please review the contents of this folder carefully and sign the front of the folder. The folder is to be sent back to school with them on Monday. In the event that we do not have school on Monday, please send it back the next school day.
Grades:
As you may already know Betsy Ross issues grades based on trimesters.
Grades will be based upon homework completion, classroom participation, and formal assessment at the end of each unit.
Homework:
Students will have daily homework. A math home-link will typically be sent home daily. In addition, students are asked to read 20 minutes daily. If there is ever an issue of completing the work, please send a note to school with your child. Student’s daily homework should take no longer than an hour. This includes the 20 minutes of reading.
Library Checkout:
Students will have the opportunity to check out two books from the school library every Friday. Please make sure you help remind your student to return his or her books on time. (Books will be due every Friday). Because students are now in third grade, library fines will be issued to any late/damaged books.
Name/Number:
At the beginning of the school year each child was assigned a number. This number helps us to keep papers/class materials organized. Please make sure your child is writing his or her name and number on their assignments. Papers turned in without a name will not be accepted.
Snacks/Water Bottles:
Students can bring in a small healthy snack to eat around 9:35am of each day. Please do not send a large snack, as it becomes distracting during the school day. We ask that all snacks sent be on the healthier side (crackers, pretzels, fruit, granola bar, etc.). The food needs to be finger food. Students are not permitted to have water bottles in the classroom.
Star Values:
Students will be rewarded for positive behavior in the classroom and throughout the school. Students will receive a star value for being safe, respectful or responsible. At the end of the week students can put their star values in a raffle to win a variety of prizes. They may also collect ten star values and trade them in for a teacher’s trading card. This is our school wide positive behavior reward system.
Take Home Folder:
This folder will travel to and from school on a daily basis. There are two important labels in the folder. The left side of the folder is labeled “For Home”. This side will include any papers that you may want to look at. In addition, it will have any graded papers that were handed back that day. The right side is labeled “Homework”. Obviously, all homework assignments will be on this side of the folder. This side will include any correct and return papers as well. It is extremely important that students bring this folder to and from school daily.
Textbooks:
Students are encouraged to take home their textbooks prior to a test to study. The textbooks are located next to their cubbies. Students are asked to take home their corresponding numbered textbook and are required to sign the textbook out using our classroom checkout procedure.
Volunteers/Visitors:
Both are always welcome! Due to recent events in the world and to maintain the security of the children in the building, all volunteers and visitors must be scheduled in advance. Please let us know if you are interested and have time to assist of volunteer in our classroom.
