During math today we worked in partners to create a Show Me presentation to solve, explain and show our work. We solved an extended response question for chapter 8 which dealt with fractions, division, subtraction, and money. The question we solved is below and a link with all of the Show Me Presentations is also included. We hope you enjoy the presentations just as much as we did!

After a nice long weekend, we hit the ground running today in room 107. During math today we used Pear Deck to learn how to do "Bow-Tie Multiplication". We have learned several ways to multiply numbers these past few weeks. Students have enjoyed learning to multiply "BIG NUMBERS". We also participated in our Guided Math Routine. Similar to Daily 5 students work independently while I work with a small group of students. During this type some student chose to work on Front Row (Please see our previous blog post regarding Front Row). In literacy we learned about past, present, and future verbs. We began the lesson by taking a short quiz using a program called Socrative. Socrative provides the students and I immediate results of their performance and allows students to work at their own pace. I shared the students "grade" with them. We then completed a verb scoot. A scoot is a fun activity that allows us to move around the classroom answering various questions. After discussing these questions, we finished the lesson by taking the quiz again. We compared our first quiz to the quiz after learning more about past, present and future verbs. Guess what? Almost all of us did better. We were so proud of our accomplishments and our ability to compare our data. Today we used Pear Deck on our Chrome Books to review for tomorrow's math test. Check out our Twitter for pictures of us in action.
https://twitter.com/mmariconda1 We will have a math assessment covering chapter 4 on Thursday. We will be reviewing key concepts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tomorrow we will be using a program called Pear Deck on the iPads to review. Make sure to ask your students about our interactive method of reviewing! In addition, tomorrow I will be sending a review packet home for extra practice; it does not need to be returned.
Similar to Daily 5, during our math block we do Guided Math. It is a time where students are working in small groups and independently on various math tasks. Sometimes they are working with technology, other times math manipulatives. They always have the opportunity to work with me in a small group setting. This allows me to informally assess each student's progress and explain concepts based on the needs of particular students in the group.
We have our first math test on Friday. The study guide went home today. I do not collect the study guide as it is not required, but I would highly recommend students complete it. As always, please feel free to email/call me with questions. In addition, you can "comment" on this post and I am able to respond to you here. Please keep in mind that whatever you post is public. :)
