This week we worked on our book reviews. We went through the entire writing process with our reviews and even recorded ourselves reading them aloud with the iPads. The videos are in our Google Classroom account, please have your child show you how to access them! :)

The ABC Countdown starts Thursday, April 30th. Information went home on Friday, April 24th in your child's Friday Folder. Despite the cold weather we had a great time today at Wagner Farm. We milked a cow, groomed a horse, fed chickens and learned a bit about the process a chicken takes to lay an egg. We enjoyed our time today on the farm! During math today we worked in partners to create a Show Me presentation to solve, explain and show our work. We solved an extended response question for chapter 8 which dealt with fractions, division, subtraction, and money. The question we solved is below and a link with all of the Show Me Presentations is also included. We hope you enjoy the presentations just as much as we did!
I would like to take a moment to applaud the class for their exceptional patience, hard work and focus during our first week of PARCC testing. Students were able to use the computer appropriately and efficiently during all three tests.
We are more than half way done and only have two tests left for this portion of the testing. Please enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend and enjoy some time AWAY from all of our "devices". This afternoon we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by creating our own Dr. Seuss hats, reading stories, guessing how many fish were in the jar, and having a small snack. Today we did some practice for the PARCC assessment. Please feel free to do additional practice at home. Click the link below to access the practice tests.
In math we are really working hard to not only solve our math story problems, but explain how we solved them and why we did what we did. This involves students to understand how to get the answer and use good sentence structure and writing to explain their process. I encourage you to have your students work through their math homework aloud at home, explaining how and what they are doing to solve their work. We worked today in groups to solve and explain different problems. Students then explained their work to their peers. We had an exciting day today at Lego Land. Our creative learners had lots of fun building and creating. After a nice long weekend, we hit the ground running today in room 107. During math today we used Pear Deck to learn how to do "Bow-Tie Multiplication". We have learned several ways to multiply numbers these past few weeks. Students have enjoyed learning to multiply "BIG NUMBERS". We also participated in our Guided Math Routine. Similar to Daily 5 students work independently while I work with a small group of students. During this type some student chose to work on Front Row (Please see our previous blog post regarding Front Row). In literacy we learned about past, present, and future verbs. We began the lesson by taking a short quiz using a program called Socrative. Socrative provides the students and I immediate results of their performance and allows students to work at their own pace. I shared the students "grade" with them. We then completed a verb scoot. A scoot is a fun activity that allows us to move around the classroom answering various questions. After discussing these questions, we finished the lesson by taking the quiz again. We compared our first quiz to the quiz after learning more about past, present and future verbs. Guess what? Almost all of us did better. We were so proud of our accomplishments and our ability to compare our data. |
